The Uniform: Knitwear
Some pieces just work. The ones you reach for without thinking. The ones that make getting dressed easy. Knitwear is one of them.
It sits at the centre of a modern wardrobe. Easy to layer, easy to style, and comfortable enough to wear all day. A good knit does not need much effort. It works with what you already own.
As part of The Uniform campaign, knitwear is the first chapter. A focus on the pieces that form the foundation of everyday dressing. This month highlights two hero brands that do knitwear especially well. American Vintage and Polo Ralph Lauren. Each bringing their own approach to classic, wearable knits.
Why knitwear works
Knitwear always comes back to the same shapes. Cardigans you can throw on over a tee. Crew knits that sit comfortably under a jacket. Relaxed pullovers that work just as well with denim as they do with tailoring.
Simple pieces worn often.
What makes a knit great usually comes down to two things. Fabric and fit. Soft yarns that feel good from the first wear. Silhouettes that are relaxed but still considered. Nothing too tight and nothing too oversized. Just shapes that feel natural to wear.
American Vintage
American Vintage focuses on relaxed knitwear designed for everyday wear. Soft fabrics and easy silhouettes make their pieces feel effortless from the first wear.
The Vitow cardigan is one of those styles that fits naturally into a wardrobe. Lightweight but cosy, with a relaxed shape that layers easily over a tee or worn buttoned on its own. It is an easy piece to throw on and build an outfit around.
Polo Ralph Lauren
Polo Ralph Lauren knitwear brings a more classic perspective. These are the pieces that have always had a place in a well built wardrobe.
Crew knits and quarter zips feel refined but still relaxed. Clean shapes and quality yarns make them dependable season after season. Worn with denim, trousers or layered under a jacket, they add a polished finish without feeling overdone.
Easy to wear
The appeal is how versatile knitwear is. A cardigan layered over a white tee and denim feels casual and effortless. A crew knit worn with trousers feels more refined.
The same piece can move easily between weekday and weekend.
Good knitwear also lasts. The kind of piece that comes back out every season. It becomes part of your routine. Something familiar that always works.
This season’s knitwear focuses on those dependable pieces. Clean shapes, soft textures and colours that slot easily into your wardrobe.
Because the best knits are simple.
They are the ones you keep wearing.
