Some launches call for a crowd. Herbert felt like it deserved a dinner.
Herbert Has Arrived
Some launches are a long time coming. Herbert began last summer as an idea of Rickie Dee’s, without a big plan or a fixed destination. Over the months that followed, it became a label in its own right. There were fabrics sourced, samples refined and an pieces reworked until it was exactly right. On Wednesday 14 October, it finally arrived.
Herbert began last summer as an idea. Rickie Dee was coming off the break with fresh energy and wanted something creative to put it into. There was no big plan at the start. Within months, it had become a label in its own right, and on Wednesday 14 October, it launched.
For Superette, this is a milestone. Herbert draws on more than twenty years of buying and curating, and of knowing what women reach for and what they keep. “Herbert grew out of Superette rather than away from it,” Rickie says. “It has quickly taken on a life of its own, and I’m so proud of where it’s landed.” Seeing the first collection on our rails was a proud moment for all of us.
A Table Set for Herbert
A launch like this called for a dinner party. We turned Superette Ponsonby International into a dining room for the night, with one long table running through the middle of the store and the first collection on the rails around it.
The table was dressed in the Herbert monogram, one of the label’s signatures, with white candles and a name card at every seat. The champagne was flowing from the moment guests arrived.
The Collection, in Good Company
Friends of the label and friends of Superette joined Rickie at the table. The dress code went unspoken, but everyone got it right: tailoring, ivory silk and a monochrome scarf tied over the hair.
It was a fitting introduction. Herbert is built on natural fibres, considered proportion and pieces that take you from morning through to dinner. It’s designed for women who know what suits them, and on launch night the table was full of them.
Just the Beginning
As the night went on, the table got louder. There were glasses raised, seats swapped and conversations started across the candles. Nobody was in a hurry to leave.
Herbert is named after the street Rickie grew up on, and after childhood days by the ocean spent with friends. There’s no better way to start a label built on that feeling than around a table with good people. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to everyone who has welcomed Herbert since. This is only the first chapter.
Herbert is available exclusively at Superette, online and in stores.
