Meet: Brodie Kane

Brodie Kane. Broadcaster, Author, Podcaster, and one of the most recognisable voices in New Zealand media. Lucky for us, she also happens to have great taste.

A broadcaster, storyteller and self-confessed hype woman, Brodie Kane lives life at full volume, and looks good doing it. Whether she's behind a mic, crossing a finish line, or somewhere in between, Brodie brings the same energy to everything: genuine, funny, and entirely herself. Her style follows suit, effortless but considered, the kind of person who just gets it right without making a fuss about it.

Step into Brodie's world as we chat morning routines, what she's currently obsessed with, and the Superette pieces that have earned a permanent spot in her wardrobe.

Tell us about yourself and what you do?

I’m a soon-to-be 40-year old woman (July 18 if you want to send presents haha) who has worked in the media industry as a journalist, producer and presenter for 20 years - starting in radio, moving into television, back to radio, then I went out on my own as an independent broadcaster six years ago. I host two awesome podcasts, Let Her Finish and Kiwi Yarns. I run ultra marathons and marathons and have an all-women run club called Solo Girls Run Club. Fun facts: I was in the Territorial Force of the NZ Army for four years, came 2nd on Dancing With The Stars in 2022, and was a national surf life saving champion back in the day.

What does a normal day look like for you — and is there even such a thing?

Absolutely no such thing! Haha look, I do try and have as much routine as possible with some things - but so much of my work is all around the country and can be at different times of the day, so we’re not doing a Monday-Friday 9-5 type arrangement.

But in saying that, my non-negotiables are getting up and exercising at least five times a week and having a decent breakfast.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are typically “podcast record days” and then I try to fit my other freelance work around that. There is heaps of travel for mahi so I really prioritise exercise and sleep to keep me going through it all.

Who or what influences how you dress?

All my beautiful friends do! I would say I’m definitely not someone who jumps on a trend, or sets one for that matter haha. But all the amazing women in my life, or women I look up to are my inspiration.

Describe your style in 3 words...

Classic, minimalist with a teaspoon of business-slutty and a cup of jeans and a nice top (ok so that’s 17 words but it’s an important description hehe)

What are your favourite Superette pieces right now?

I am absolutely in love with my Leni suit. I love a power suit and this is tailored beautifully and looks so good!

My Stella top and Lockie pants are also gorgeous.

My Levis XL straight is my favourite jeans in a long time too!

Your morning routine: Wake up. Go for a run or the gym, come home, have a shower, eat some breakfast, get ready for work. A really standard routine - no bells and whistles here!

Current obsession: I’m currently on my 40th Birthday Sabbatical in Europe, so I would have to say my daily obsessions are ocean swims, reading books and Aperol Spritz.

Favourite Auckland spot: Prego Restaurant on Ponsonby Road. The amount of hours I’ve spent in that courtyard…

Go-to weekend look: Running gear in the morning! Then probably jeans and a nice top (or if Summer, denim shorts and a nice top haha).
