The Studio with Georgia Bramley

We recently sat down with Georgia Bramley from Fashion Quarterly to hear about her favourite Superette selects from our latest collection; The Studio.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m the creative director at Fashion Quarterly. I live in Grey Lynn with my fiancé, Willy, and our cat Elton. I always knew I wanted to work for a fashion magazine… growing up, I told anyone who asked that I was going to be the art director of Vogue one day. I love simple things done well: good food, good design, good style. Spending time with friends and family fills my cup, although I’d call myself an extroverted introvert. So I know I also need time alone to recharge. I’m a perfectionist, but less so since turning 30. Willy keeps me in check.

What does your day-to-day look like?

It depends... I split my work week between our shared office and home. Some days are filled with back-to-back meetings, moodboarding shoots, writing briefs, or working through layouts. Other days I’ll be on set, organising events, or deep in a pitch for a client. It’s fast-paced, creative and the lead-up to print is intense, but I’ve got a strong support system at home. It also helps that Willy’s an amazing cook... so I always eat well, even during deadline weeks.

How would you describe your approach to beauty and fashion?

Pretty minimal. Most days I wear Ilia’s Skin Tint mixed with Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Filter. I get a bit claustrophobic in heavy makeup or too much jewellery, especially when I’m in flow, so I prefer to keep it natural. My wardrobe is built around timeless staples. I love mixing tailored and relaxed fits, and feminine pieces with masculine silhouettes. I always come back to ’90s minimalism and Caroline Bessette for inspiration.

What does your studio look like, in work or in mindset?

Organised chaos. I’m quite type-A by nature. Despite being creative, I rely on lists, spreadsheets, systems and moodboards to keep things moving. I always have a lot on the go, and a big part of my role is managing budgets, timelines and workflow, so structure for me is everything.

Describe your style in three words.

Tailored. Minimal. Timeless.

What pieces are on high rotation in your wardrobe?

Jeans, always. A few blazers. I wear a lot of Silk Laundry, St. Agni, Camilla and Marc, and Rebe. My Superette ‘Tyler’ pants and ‘Charlotte’ trench have been in rotation for years. I lean into tonal basics I can rework daily, with the occasional pop of colour. Some of my favourite pieces are hand-me-downs from Mum... a few Knuefermann staples from over a decade ago that I still wear. My dad’s also in fashion, so I have a couple of special pieces from his old labels, like a tailored crop top from when he owned Silk Degrees in the ’80s.

Where do you find inspiration, in fashion, people, or places?

Mostly in the everyday. Walks, music, films, conversations. I’m drawn to anything nostalgic... old music, ’90s fashion and beauty, rom-coms, vintage icons. I’m always jotting things down. I love romanticising life, and travel plays a big part in that.

What’s a daily ritual you never skip?

Coffee. And calling Mum.

Is there anything exciting coming up?

I’m recently engaged, so wedding planning is underway!
