From the Southern Alps to the Waikato fairways

A 2026 Superette Golf Tour

Eight courses. Two islands. One road trip built around some of Aotearoa’s most scenic fairways. For 2026 we’re taking the Superette Golf Tour from the deep south of the South Island all the way north, exploring courses that combine incredible landscapes, small-town charm and unforgettable rounds.

New Zealand might just be one of the best places in the world to build a golf road trip. Dramatic landscapes, quiet fairways and courses that feel carved directly into the environment make every round feel like an experience.

So we mapped out the ultimate Superette Golf Tour for 2026. Starting in the deep south and slowly working our way north, this itinerary connects eight courses across both islands. Some are hidden gems, others are iconic destinations, but all capture something special about golf in Aotearoa.

Pack the clubs. The road trip starts now.

Arrowtown Golf Club - Central Otago

There are few better ways to start a South Island golf journey than in Arrowtown. Nestled beneath the Remarkables and surrounded by rugged Central Otago terrain, Arrowtown Golf Club delivers one of the most scenic rounds in the country. The course winds through rocky outcrops, alpine grasslands and historic gold mining remnants, creating a layout that feels completely integrated into the landscape.

It’s not the longest course you’ll ever play, but it’s one that rewards accuracy and creativity. Every hole feels slightly different, with elevation changes and natural obstacles keeping you honest. The views alone make it worth the trip.

Omarama Golf Club - Waitaki Valley

Next stop is Omarama, a classic New Zealand country course with serious charm. Surrounded by the Southern Alps, the nine hole layout offers a relaxed and welcoming round with spectacular mountain views framing every shot.

Like many small town courses in New Zealand, Omarama carries that laid back atmosphere where golf is as much about community as competition. A quick round, a cold drink at the clubhouse and back on the road.

Terrace Downs Golf Course - Canterbury High Country

From Omarama the tour continues north into Canterbury, where Terrace Downs offers a completely different style of golf. Set against the foothills of the Southern Alps, this course blends luxury resort golf with dramatic high country scenery.

Wide fairways run alongside the Rakaia River while the surrounding mountain backdrop makes every tee box feel cinematic. It’s a course that balances playability with challenge and makes for one of the most visually striking rounds on the South Island.

Hororata Golf Club - Canterbury

For a more traditional Kiwi golf experience, Hororata Golf Club brings the charm of rural Canterbury. Quiet, welcoming and beautifully maintained, this course captures everything people love about community golf.

Rolling fairways, mature trees and a relaxed pace make it the kind of place where a round can easily turn into an afternoon.

Pegasus Golf Club - North Canterbury

Heading closer to the coast, Pegasus Golf Club introduces a more modern links inspired layout. Built around wetlands and natural waterways, the course challenges golfers with strategic bunkering, shifting winds and wide open views.

It’s a course that rewards smart shot placement rather than brute distance. A perfect mid trip test before crossing the Cook Strait.

Koura Bay Resort Golf Course - Kaikōura Coast
Few golf courses in New Zealand deliver views like Koura Bay. Perched on the Kaikōura coastline, the course looks out across the Pacific Ocean while the Kaikōura ranges rise dramatically behind you.

Every hole feels exposed to the elements in the best possible way. Sea air, coastal winds and rolling terrain make this a round that feels uniquely New Zealand.

Taumarunui Golf Club - Central North Island
After the ferry crossing and heading inland, the tour reaches Taumarunui. This hidden gem in the King Country delivers a course that feels peaceful, remote and beautifully integrated with the surrounding bush.

The fairways weave through native trees and rolling terrain, creating a layout that rewards patience and course management. It’s one of those places where the pace of life slows down and the round becomes the focus.

Waikato Golf Club - Hamilton
The tour finishes in the Waikato, home to one of the North Island’s most established courses. Waikato Golf Club blends classic parkland golf with a rich history and beautifully maintained greens.

Tree lined fairways and strategic bunkering provide a fitting final challenge after a journey that has crossed the country.

The Superette Golf Tour

From alpine valleys to coastal cliffs, small town clubs to championship layouts, the beauty of a New Zealand golf road trip is the diversity of courses you encounter along the way.

Eight rounds across two islands tells a story of landscapes, communities and the unique culture that surrounds golf in Aotearoa.

For 2026, the Superette Golf Tour is about getting out there. Exploring new courses, travelling with friends and experiencing the country one fairway at a time.

Game on.
