Dinosaur Designs

A philosophy of colour and form.

the designers

Husband and wife duo, Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy both started as students working in their studio at art school to working together to create beautiful things via Dinosaur Designs. Every piece they make is crafted by hand in Australia, passing through many pairs of hands in the process, giving each piece the slight differences that make it unique.

Each Dinosaur Designs collection draws on the natural world. Finding inspiration from nature, memories, and the world around them.

“Working in design is a wonderful privilege. It’s a great way to study of the world. It’s a never ending exploration where we’re constantly inspired by nature. This is just one of the reasons we use sustainable working methods and minimise waste and electricity consumption.”

the process

Dinosaur Designs meticulously handcrafts resin objects, homewares, and jewelry in their Sydney studio, exceeding Australian standards for pay, working conditions, health, and safety.

The resin used by Dinosaur Designs is developed from a by-product of the oil industry and comes with a use-by date. In its unprocessed state, it is essentially a waste product, which can either be burnt or, if not used in time, can solidify, rendering it unusable and leading to landfill disposal. All of Dinosaur Designs' resin is sourced from the USA. The company designs and handcrafts pieces using low-energy methods from a product derived from waste material. The resins produced are BPA-free and suitable for cold food service.
